Taking a page out of my good friend Greg’s blog (read it here at http://greg-in-ghana.blogspot.com/), I’d like to post a few things that either are too short to write a whole post about or that I wish I had time to write about. Greg’s blog posts are sporadic (mainly due to his access to internet) but when new ones are published they come in numbers. Like today, he posted 4: 1 about the beach, 1 about the local language, 1 about the food, and 1 about pubs. Every time I read it, I realize about how drastically different our experiences are. For two kids who come from similar backgrounds (and according to some people looks) it is incredible to me that we both can go away for 4 months and we will come back with very different memories. From his trip, I think I am most jealous of the beach. Being able to see and hear the beach pretty much all the time at home is a luxury that I unfortunately realized today that I take for granted. Although the water is cold and I rarely venture in, just being near it is enough to feel its calming effects. It was not until I saw pictures of his trip (sorry none on his blog) that I realized that it was that that I missed. I think that is why my spring break will be on all water cities: Mykonos, Santorini, Malaga, Lisbon (ok not all), and maybe Sicily. But onto my version of Greg’s random notes:
(note: some have possible titles, which are in bold)
Sheep - all the girls have the same bags. Today in class, I counted 8 out of 12 girls have the same monocromatic canvas bag with leather handle
- Importance of travel
Jumping out of the comfort circle - skydiving in Interlaken. I never would haveeven considered it in the US and always was the nay sayer. (Unfortunately trip didn’t happen) also saved me 270 euro but would have been epic. What pushed me over the edge was not wanting to be 60 and say I wish I had jumped out of that stupid plane and actually done it.
The Puzzles of Life - Everyday I walk past the same homeless man and his dogin the park. He stands (occasionally sits) and does nothing. Doesn’t beg, listens to music sometimes but basically nothing. Made me think about all the opinions about his life or story that people would have. Entitlement vs. should get a job (Does he think he is owed something? Could he actually get a job? Maybe he does need help?) Boredom vs. stress (I’d be bored as shit standing there all day, but then again don’t wanna work 20 hours a day). Laziness vs. overworked? and so on
The Most stressful coin flip that never happened - My internship at therestaurant almost rested on a coin flip before we worked it out so me and another intern could both work there.
- Difference between italian and American teachers (mainly Economics). Mypublic finance teacher mentions equity before efficiency every time whereas my Oxy teachers say efficiency before equity. She also talks a lot about that it’s not right for the people. Or that everyone DESERVES it…
There are many things I wish I had to go into and maybe at some point I will. Everybody have a good rest of your day, time for me to eat.
